At present, germicidal ultraviolet light (UV), when properly integrated into a heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) system, is an effective method for preventing indoor air contamination from spreading throughout your home.
UVC Light Ultraviolet light is that portion of the electromagnetic spectrum that lies beyond the “purple” edge of the visible spectrum and has wavelengths between 100 and 400 nm.
The UVA range causes “sun tanning” in the human skin. The UVB range causes “sun burning”. The UVC range is dangerous to human skin but is also the range that is most effective in controlling airborne bacteria and viruses.
The “germicidal range” of the UV spectrum is approximately 200 – 300 nm, with a peak germicidal effectiveness at 254 nm.
